Rights Responsibilities and Rhetoric: Unpacking the policy and practice issues in mental health law, guardianship and trusteeship
Date: 8 - 9 October 2009 (during Mental Health Week) Mental health issues are a growing concern in the community. This conference will help practitioners to better face these and the related adult-protection issues in today’s everchanging society. We bring together experts in their field, practitioners and consumers to examine current and potential future practice and service provision in the areas of guardianship, advocacy, the involuntary treatment of mental illness and trusteeship. Social Inclusion: The Future of Ageing, Disability and Substituted Decision-Making
Date: 19-20 March 2009 Adults with impaired decision-making capacity are among our most disadvantaged and marginalised citizens: often they lead forgotten lives of social isolation and diminished opportunities. They struggle for equitable access to housing, healthcare and legal services, while the problems of social exclusion and marginalisation seem to be immune to legislative and policy fixes. How can we secure funding levels which are adequate, community attitudes which are welcoming, and service systems whose cultures support people’s autonomy and dignity? Given the changing demographics of ageing and disability, what lies ahead for our citizens with impaired capacity? What are the challenges for government? How should our systems of protection respond?... Just Partners.....Family Violence, Specialist Courts and the Idea of IntegrationA National Conference
